Life
Skills Courses
Students with special education needs can meet requirements for the Higher
School Certificate by doing a special program of study using a combination of:
-
Board Developed Life Skills Courses and/or
-
Board Developed Courses and/or
-
Board Endorsed Courses (including Content Endorsed Courses).
This flexibility allows schools to develop an individualised program of study
that challenges students according to their individual levels of need.
The Life Skills Courses have Board Developed status and can be used in place
of other Board Developed Courses to meet requirements for the award of the
Higher
School Certificate. Each Life Skills course comprises a 2 unit Preliminary
component and a 2 unit HSC component. The Life Skills Courses are:
-
English Life Skills
-
Mathematics Life Skills
-
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education Life Skills
-
Citizenship and Society Life Skills
-
Science Life Skills
-
Creative Arts Life Skills
-
Technological and Applied Studies Life Skills
-
Work and the Community Life Skills.
Completion (by the school) of an individual plan for each student is a condition
of access to a special program of study involving Life Skills Courses for
the
Higher School Certificate. Principals are required by the Board to certify
that the planning process has been undertaken.
