Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Students may study vocational education and training (VET) courses as part of the Higher School Certificate. Nine industry curriculum frameworks, each incorporating a range of courses, are available. These provide students with the opportunity to gain Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificates or Statements of Attainment.

The courses are industry-accredited nationally and accepted by the universities in NSW and the ACT. For students choosing to take an optional HSC exam for 240 hour VET courses in the frameworks, two units of the courses may be included in the calculation of the UAI.

The courses all involve mandatory assessable work placement. Students may also undertake the courses as part of a traineeship.

The nine curriculum frameworks are:

  • Business Services

  • Construction

  • Entertainment Industry

  • Hospitality

  • Information Technology

  • Metal and Engineering

  • Primary Industries

  • Retail

  • Tourism and Hospitality.

Students can undertake framework courses at school or through TAFE. The TAFE delivered course in Accounting may also count towards the UAI. In addition, the Content Endorsed Course in Introduction to Electrotechnology and a wide range of TAFE delivered VET Content Endorsed Courses are offered.
