Return to the Nature of the Learner Forum Table of Contents
To show some of our current practice in teacher education at UTS, we have chosen to identify some principles of learning in use in our teacher education courses. We believe these principles are appropriate for different learners, in different contexts and in different content areas.
We believe that teaching for learning incorporates:
-
active participation of learners
-
modelling of sound learning strategies
-
high expectations of learners
-
creation of a positive and productive environment
-
learner-centredness as well as teacher-centredness
- reflection and review.
To illustrate these points, the following three brief papers are provided:
Alan Scully
Teaching students about classroom management:
the importance of active engagement, modelling and reflection.
Rhondda Brill
Teaching teachers of early literacy: the
use of modelling.
Janette Griffin
Putting research into practice: learning
to teach Science from research on learning.
