The following decisions made by the Board of Studies at its meeting on May 21, 2002 are highlighted for your information.

The replacement of the term "band" in the Higher School Certificate
Following consultation, the Board decided to retain the use of the term 'band' and to prepare and distribute advice on the appropriate and inappropriate use of the term. It also decided to continue to report the proportions of student achieving each standard of performance. The Board further decided to investigate appropriate ways of using the marks corresponding to key percentile points in the course mark distributions to report and monitor student achievement. -
The introduction of the mandatory Computing Skills Assessment for Year 10 student
The Board has decided that the trialling of the Year 10 Computing Skills Assessment should be extended for another year, to include 2003, and that every school that expresses a wish to be included in the 2003 trial should be included. The Board also decided that the Year 10 Computing Skills Assessment should be mandatory for all schools from 2004. -
Timelines for implementation of revised Years 7-10 Mathematics and English Syllabuses
The Board has decided that the timeline for implementation of the Years 7-10 Mathematics and English syllabuses will be amended such that the revised syllabuses are implemented from 2004. -
Stage 4 outcomes in elective Years 7-10 syllabuses
The Board has decided that Stage 4 outcomes will be included in all Years 7-10 elective syllabuses.
