Geography: consultation 2010-2012

Consultation on draft Australian curriculum

The draft Australian curriculum for Geography was released by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) on 21 October 2011 for national consultation. The Board of Studies consulted with teachers and the public from November 2011 to March 2012 to coordinate NSW feedback about the quality and suitability of this curriculum for NSW schools.

The Board’s consultation included face-to-face meetings in metropolitan and regional areas of NSW and an online survey. The focus was on the Foundation (known as Kindergarten in NSW) to Year 10 curriculum.

Board of Studies consultation on the draft shape paper for Geography

The draft shape paper for Geography was released by ACARA for national consultation from 21 June to 27 August 2010.

The Board of Studies consulted with teachers and the public during term 3, 2010 to coordinate NSW feedback to ACARA. The NSW consultation included an online survey, meetings with teacher focus groups in metropolitan and regional NSW and a geography reference group. Feedback received by the Board of Studies contributed to the NSW response to ACARA.

The final Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Geography was published by ACARA in January 2011. The shape paper presents an outline of the K–12 curriculum, guiding writers in the development of the draft Australian curriculum.
