School Certificate (Year 10)
- What is the School Certificate?

The School Certificate is the credential awarded to NSW students who have satisfactorily completed Years 7-10 at secondary school. To be eligible, students must:
- complete the required subjects;
- demonstrate satisfactory effort; and
- sit for the statewide School Certificate tests.
- What subjects must students study?

To receive the School Certificate, students are required to study English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education each year in Years 7-10.
Students are also required to study Creative Arts, Technological and Applied Studies, and Languages Other Than English at some time during Years 7-10.
- What other subjects can students choose to study?

Students may undertake additional studies, or electives, which are also reported on the School Certificate.
A list of all the Years 7-10 courses developed by the Board of Studies and an outline of these courses can be viewed on the Board's website.
Many schools also develop their own elective courses which are approved by the Board of Studies, eg Physical Activity and Sports Studies.
Commencing in 2009, a limited range of School Certificate VET courses will be available for study in Years 9-10 (Stage 5) that lead to a Certificate I AQF VET qualification. Students in Stage 5 will also be able to undertake early commencement of HSC (Stage 6) VET courses.
