Nick Hewett

Nick has been playing trumpet since he was seven and has attained AMEB Grade 8. He accelerated in music and this year commences a ‘Fast Track’ Bachelor of Music with Southern Cross University while still completing his HSC. Nick played for four years with the Southern Cross Big Band, has performed with the Queensland Youth Orchestra Wind Ensemble and is a regular performer at his local jazz venue alongside established musicians. He is also a regular winner at the Lismore Eisteddfod and, in 2002, won the Musica Viva Award for Outstanding Brass Performance. He aspires to play principal trumpet in a symphony orchestra and to record and tour with his own jazz ensemble. Nick plays the flügelhorn in this concert and is joined by Joel Burton (bass), Ben Karsay (drums), Nick Powell (keyboard) and Ben Thompson (guitar).
