Zane Banks
Newtown High School of the Performing Arts
Zane’s love of music has been well fostered by his parents, both of
whom are High School Music Teachers. He began playing the Popular Guitar at nine
and the Classical Guitar at twelve, having completed all AMEB ‘Contemporary
Popular Music Advanced Guitar’ levels by Year 10. He currently studies
with Jazz Guitarist Steve Brien, finger style Guitarist Peter Pik and Phillip
Houghton. Highlights in the past year have included playing in Greenwich Village
(New York) whilst attending a Global Young Leaders Conference. He also performed
as a featured solo artist at the 2004 Schools Spectacular and was again invited
to perform as a soloist at the opening of the Australian Youth Olympics in January
this year. Zane will begin a Bachelor of Performance, Classical Guitar at the
Conservatorium of Music this year and hopes to eventually travel overseas to
complete a PhD in music. He performs with his brother Jy-Perry (bass guitar),
his father Andrew (Hammond organ), and Year 7 Newtown HSPA student Abraham Rounds
(drums).
