Diane Beyrouthi

Although Diane began playing the piano at eight and has attained AMEB Grade 7, she only recently discovered that she was also a talented composer. Enrolling in the HSC Music 1 course, Diane ‘discovered a creative side I never knew existed’, and now spends all her spare time composing. She composed a graduation song that was played in the Year 12 Farewell Ceremony and this experience has allowed her to fully appreciate her capabilities. Inspired by Isaac Albeniz and Kerin Bailey, Diane’s piece El Bailarin Español tells the story of a Spanish woman re-living her youthful career as a dancer. Her muse was a Spanish doll that sat atop her piano. Diane says she ‘invented her dramatic and seductive life’ in a contemporary Spanish style, with elements of a tango. She hopes to study languages at University but may be tempted by a musical career as she goes on to explore her new found passion for composition. Diane is joined in performance by Joshua Hill (suspended cymbal).
