Expressions of Interest – Authorised Person for the purpose of Home Schooling
The Office is seeking expressions of interest for engagement as an Authorised Person to service the southern suburbs of Sydney.
Authorised Persons provide advice and report on applications for home schooling by way of written reports. This follows meetings with applicants and their children or review of submitted documentation by applicants to ensure compliance with the Act and related Guidelines.
The successful applicant for this role will be engaged for a period of up to three years, commencing 1 January 2009 with possibility of three years extension. Remuneration will be on a contracted fee-for-service basis.

K-6 Science and Technology Curriculum Writers
Call for Expressions of Interest
To assist with the review and revision of the Science and Technology K–6 Syllabus, the Office of the Board of Studies is creating a register of curriculum writers. This register will be used to select writers to undertake tasks at various stages of the process. Depending on their current employment situation, the selected writers will be contracted or deployed (subject to approval of the current employer) to undertake the writing tasks.
Interested people are invited to submit an expression of interest for inclusion on the register. Expressions of interest are particularly sought from people with skills and interests in the writing of Science and/or Technology curriculum materials.
This register will be used to identify potential syllabus writers or to identify writers to undertake other tasks at various stages of the syllabus development process beginning in Term 1, 2008. Once particular tasks are identified, potential writers will be selected from the register and contacted to discuss any further requirements of the task or to provide further information on which to base the selection of writers. A short list of potential writers will be interviewed and undertake a writing task as part of the selection process.
The selected writers will work under the direction of a Project Manager who will have overall responsibility for coordinating and managing each of the tasks associated with the development of the materials, and for ensuring that the project is completed to an acceptable standard, on time, and within budget. For some parts of the project several writers may be required to work collaboratively.
Selected writers will be expected to attend regular meetings and, in most cases, will be required to undertake their writing at the Office of the Board of Studies at 117 Clarence St, Sydney.
Placement on the register
Selection of potential writers for placement on the register will involve consideration of the following criteria:
- demonstrated expert knowledge of Science and/or Technology (evident through educational qualifications and work résumé)
- demonstrated understanding of the K–6 learning area (evident through educational qualifications and work résumé)
- high level of writing skills (evident in writing experience).

Confidentiality
Writers will be required to give an undertaking that they will maintain confidentiality in relation to the project being undertaken.

Expressions of Interest for Chief Examiners, Members of Examination Committees and Assessors for 2009 HSC and SC
The NSW Board of Studies invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified teachers and academics who wish to participate in the development of the 2009 Higher School Certificate examinations and School Certificate tests as Chief Examiner, member of an examination committee or assessor. The development of the examinations commences in Term 4 2008 and continues to about July 2009. Assessing takes one day and occurs usually in Term 1.
Successful applicants receive an honorarium and travel expenses.
Applications for Chief Examiner must be submitted no later than Friday, 4 July and for committee member and assessor no later than Friday, 22 August 2008.

Statement of Equity Principles
This Statement of Equity Principles provides a guide to writers of syllabuses, support materials and assessment guidelines in developing materials which relate to two of the Board's corporate objectives:
- to develop high quality courses and support materials for primary and secondary education suited to the needs of the full range of students;
- to assess student achievement and award credentials of international standards to meet the needs of the full range of students.
The Statement of Equity Principles is derived from the Board's Statement of Values (pp 2-3) which was endorsed by the Board in 1994. The Statement of Equity Principles serves to elucidate the Statement of Values from an equity perspective.
The Board of Studies NSW Annual Reports
The Board of Studies NSW Annual Reports: The Office of the Board of Studies NSW is responsible for the development and delivery of professional and administrative services to the Minister for Education and the Board of Studies and its committees to enable the Minister and the Board to fulfil their respective legislated functions under the Education Act 1990. These functions include responsibility for NSW curriculum development, monitoring and support; registration and accreditation of non-government schools and home schooling, and the assessment and examination of student achievements for the awarding of the NSW School Certificate and Higher School Certificate.
