For information on FREE upgrades for registered owners, email .

NOTE: Motorised Notebook version 6.x is only guaranteed to run on Mac OS 9.2 or earlier, and Windows ME or earlier. On Windows XP, more reliability can be guaranteed if you select the compatibility Menu and in the Accessories option, set the program to be Win95 compatible. Customers may use the software on later systems and we are happy to receive comments and suggestions. There will be no further updates until 2007.

The CD-ROM contains two versions – one for Windows and the other for Apple Macintosh. Markbook data can be exchanged between the two versions.

Version 6.0 features include

  • easy calculation of complex student assessment tasks through simple selection of all common statistical functions. No complicated formulae to enter, you just enter the names and marks and let Motorised Markbook do the rest

  • statistically accurate ways of combining, weighting and transforming student test and assignment marks quickly and easily for HSC and SC grading

  • scaling options such as respecifying the mean and standard deviation of a test, scaling to a new maximum mark, moderating a set of tests based on a common test, multilinear mapping and assigning of Alphabetical Grades (based on user defined cutoffs)

  • a wide range of printing options which can be applied to individual classes or linked groups of classes. These include alphabetical class lists, traditional markbook pages of selected tests, student rankings, individual Student Profiles ideal for parent interviews, frequency distribution tables and scatter graphs for detailed test analysis, attendance sheets to match school term dates and more

  • routines for calculating student estimates

  • a class rollover feature for moving classes from one year to the next, and importing and exporting class names and tests

  • online help and a detailed manual with tutorials

  • free school-wide network/multi-user licence on registration of purchase.

How can I convert my old Macintosh v3.x markbooks for use in v6.0?

For a number of years, many schools have used the (Macintosh only) v3.0 or v3.1. This small drag-and-drop utility automates the process of converting these old markbooks into Motorised Markbook v6.x compatible format.

This Macintosh-only utility is also on the CD-ROM when you purchase the program.

I'm having trouble printing my classlists. What can I do?

Several Macintosh and Windows users have reported that a few computer/printer combinations are printing only the first page of their reports, leaving blank pages for the remainder, or cutting off several names from the bottom of the page. This problem was resolved in version 6.1 for macintosh and version 6.5 for Windows. These free upgrades are downloadable from this website. Contact us for details of how to download your program upgrade.

An essential step that is also part of the solution is to make sure that your printer drivers are the latest available.

To the right are the links to both Epson and Hewlett-Packard Technical Assistance web sites where the latest printer drivers can be found for your printer model.

On Windows, with some printers, the problem may simply be fixed by selecting the FIT TO PAGE check box. This is found in the OPTIONSbutton when you select PRINT.

On the Macintosh, one common printing problem can be solved by selecting PRINTER PAGE SETUP and making sure that A4 SMALL is not selected. Select A4 as your paper.

What does the free Network Licence entitle me to?

When you purchase Motorised Markbook v6 there is a Network Licence registration card in the pack. Fax or post it back to us.

We regard one geographic location (eg a school and its staff) as a site for licensing purposes. Staff members can copy the program of their choice (either Windows or Macintosh) from the CD-ROM and install it on their home computer or laptop as well.

You may also put it on your school network server for everyone to access. (Just don't think of calling us for network advice, please!)

If you are a large institution and have faculty centres in different buildings, we would ask you to regard them as requiring separate licensed copies.

This program was produced as a service to teachers. Please feel free to recommend it to teachers in other schools, but do not pass pirate copies on to them.
