HSC Marking Professional Learning Workshops

The Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards is offering a series of one-day workshops that simulate the HSC marking experience.

The workshops are targeted at all secondary teachers, particularly those teaching Stage 6. The focus is on the HSC marking process and the Board's onscreen marking application. Although participants will work with real student responses from Section 1 of the 2013 HSC English Standard and Advanced examination, the workshop will be relevant to teachers of most HSC courses.

Teachers will engage in a hands-on simulation of the HSC marking process, most particularly the application of the marking kit, to ensure valid and reliable results. They will come away with an understanding of the principles of standards-referenced assessment, and an ability to apply marking guidelines to make valid and consistent judgements. These skills can then be taken back to school – teachers will be able to help their students better understand the expectations of the HSC examination, and approach the development and marking of assessment tasks effectively.

Completing this course will be acknowledged with six hours of accreditation. This program will address the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: 5.1, 5.3, 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3.
