HSC Written Marking Professional Learning Workshops – Mathematics and Biology

BOSTES is offering a series of one-day workshops that simulate the HSC marking experience.

The workshops are targeted at teachers of Stage 6 Mathematics and Biology, although teachers of other Science subjects will find the day informative. The focus is on the HSC marking process and participants will have an opportunity to work with real student responses from the 2014 HSC Mathematics and Biology examinations.

Teachers will engage in a hands-on simulation of the HSC marking process, most particularly the application of the marking kit to ensure valid and reliable results. They will develop an understanding of the principles of assessment and an ability to apply marking guidelines to make valid and consistent judgements. They will learn about the relationship between school assessment marks and final HSC marks, and come away with new skills for developing a robust assessment program.

Completing this course will be acknowledged with six hours of accreditation. This program will address the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: 5.1.3; 5.3.3; 5.4.3; 6.2.3; 6.3.3
