Dimensions: Community Partnerships, Inter-school Programs, Cultural Awareness, Cultural Exchange
The Brooklyn Program (Community Partnership Dimension)
This program commenced in 2005 following 12 months of research and a pilot program, and was completed in conjunction with the St Vincent de Paul Society. The program involves a teacher plus three or four senior students meeting with a group of our local homeless people in the hills of Brooklyn (the Hawkesbury River) for a BBQ on Sunday evenings.
Respect
The program inculcates respect for people in a non-judgmental way by supporting them in their marginalised situation.
Responsibility
The program aims at developing a sense of responsibility in the students for the welfare of fellow human beings who are on the fringes of society.
The Walgett Program (Inter-schools Program Dimension)
The program involves student exchange between St Edward's College, Gosford, and St Joseph's Primary School, Walgett, which has a predominantly Indigenous population.
Volunteer students visit each others' school and participate in a cultural exchange program. It is proving to be a highly effective means of teaching reconciliation to the St Edward's students.
Respect
This program aims to teach students respect for Indigenous Australians and their culture.
Responsibility
The program urges students to accept responsibility for Australia's history and the truth surrounding our past.
