Distinction course program
Application for entry to distinction course study in 2010
In 2010 the Distinction Course in Philosophy will be offered by distance education through the University of New England.
Completed application forms and student profiles must be returned to the Office of the Board of Studies through the school principal. This information should be received by the Office no later than 27 November 2009.
Advice about the Distinction Course Program can be found on the Board’s website in the Higher School Certificate Distinction Courses – An Information Booklet.
While the Distinction Course may count towards the calculation of the UAI, it is additional to the units required for the award of the Higher School Certificate.
Applicants should note that attendance at residential schools is a compulsory component of the Distinction Course, the first of these schools being scheduled for late January/early February.
A student's performance in the HSC examination in the subject of acceleration will be a key factor in selection. However, the information provided with this application form will also be of significance. In special circumstances the Board may also need to consult directly with the school when considering the student’s application.
Criteria for selection of students for the 2010 Distinction Course Program
The criteria for selection for study of a Distinction Course are:
- completion of an accelerated Board Developed course by the end of 2009
- outstanding achievement in the accelerated course at the HSC examination
- evidence of a pattern of high achievement in all courses undertaken in 2009. A student profile that includes a report on the student’s academic achievements in all subjects must be completed by the school and must accompany the application
- a supportive recommendation from the student’s principal indicating the student’s potential for undertaking the Distinction Course
- a completed student profile summarising all requirements as per the relevant headings. It should be noted that there are no prerequisites which apply specifically to Philosophy.
