Heritage Chinese – Performance band descriptions

The typical performance in this band:

Band 6

  • manipulates Chinese authentically and effectively to communicate a range of ideas and opinions relevant to context, purpose and audience
  • demonstrates the ability to reflect critically on and apply knowledge and understanding of the relationships between language, culture and identity in a bilingual context
  • demonstrates the ability to formulate a convincing argument to substantiate a point of view
  • structures and sequences ideas and information effectively and coherently
  • demonstrates the ability to summarise and synthesise information from texts and provide detailed and insightful analysis

Band 5

  • manipulates Chinese effectively to communicate a range of ideas and opinions relevant to context, purpose and audience
  • demonstrates an ability to reflect on and apply knowledge and understanding of the relationships between language, culture and identity in a bilingual context
  • demonstrates the ability to justify a point of view consistently
  • organises and expresses ideas and information clearly
  • demonstrates the ability to summarise and synthesise information from texts and provide detailed analysis with some insight and interpretation

Band 4

  • uses Chinese with a degree of accuracy to communicate ideas and opinions relevant to context, purpose and audience
