The new HSC Revision of Stage 6 syllabuses
The consultation process
Development of the new HSC syllabuses for most subjects involved a three -stage process.
The first stage was the evaluation of the existing syllabuses. Evaluation reports were submitted to the Board of Studies in June 1998. The second stage, the preparation of a writing brief for consultation with the education community and subsequent endorsement by the Board of Studies, occurred late in 1998. The third stage, the preparation of a syllabus during 1999, has involved further consultation with the education community and endorsement by the Board of Studies.
Teachers, professional associations, academics and industry representatives across New South Wales have had the opportunity to consider and respond to draft documents prior to their consideration by the Board of Studies. The evaluation reports and the endorsed writing briefs are already published on the Board of Studies website. As each new Stage 6 syllabus is approved for Year 11 students in the Year 2000 and distributed to schools, it will also be published on the website.
In addition, consultation reports on the draft syllabus have been developed for consideration by the Board. These reports have identified the issues that have emerged from the consultation and have listed the actions taken to amend the draft document where necessary. The reports have also listed the individuals and groups who have responded.
These consultation reports are published on the website for the information of teachers and others.
The documents are all in Adobe Acrobat reader (PDF) format.
