Stage 6 (11–12) syllabus development background
English, Mathematics, Science and History
BOSTES commenced work on the development of new syllabuses for Stage 6 English, Mathematics, Science and History following state and territory Education Ministers’ agreement in 2012 that senior secondary Australian curriculum is the common base for development of state and territory senior secondary courses.
The new Stage 6 syllabuses will support implementation of Australian curriculum content, maintain the current high standards of the NSW curriculum and retain syllabus features familiar to and appreciated by NSW teachers.
View the new Stage 6 syllabuses on the NSW Syllabuses site.
Information about the new syllabuses including assessment requirements, course guides and implementation is available on the NSW Education Standards (NESA) site. The draft syllabuses are also available on the NESA site.
Writing Briefs 2016
The Senior Years Writing Briefs for English, Mathematics, Science and History courses were endorsed by BOSTES at an extraordinary meeting held on 16 February 2016. The writing briefs were finalised following broad consultation on a range of options for course structures in each subject in Term 4, 2015.
The writing briefs provide a blueprint for the development of draft syllabuses. They provide instructions to writers about the scope and nature of content and other elements for inclusion in the draft syllabuses based on key matters raised during consultation and actions in response.
The Draft Writing Brief Consultation Reports for each course provide a summary of feedback received during consultation. The key matters raised and the actions in response to feedback have helped to shape the development of draft syllabuses in each learning area.
