Work and the Community Life Skills Stage 6 Syllabus (2015)
The Work and the Community Life Skills course is designed to prepare students to transition into adult life in a way that reflects the evolving nature of the role of work in our communities. The course develops students’ literacy and numeracy, self-determination, independence, social participation and employability skills so that they have the confidence to recognise themselves as valuable contributors to society and to know what support is available for them. It is expected that all students enrolled in this course will gain practical experience in contributing to the community and the workforce.

Year 12 school-based assessment in 2024
In recognition of continuing school disruption, NESA has extended the 2023 flexibility for school-based assessment rules to Year 12 students undertaking the HSC in 2024. These changes affect the published Assessment and Reporting requirements. Please ensure you follow the school-based assessment advice for the 2024 HSC.

About Life Skills
All students are entitled to participate in and progress through the curriculum. Life Skills courses provide course options for students with intellectual disability or imputed intellectual disability in Years 11–12 who cannot access related general education courses. Students with disability can access syllabus outcomes and content in a range of ways, including through a range of adjustments to teaching, learning and assessment activities. Decisions regarding curriculum options should be made in the context of collaborative curriculum planning.
