NESA provides Statements of Equivalence (to NSW school level awards) for secondary education qualifications from overseas countries or from other Australian states and territories.

We provide statements of equivalence for employment and some training purposes.

Statements required for university entrance must be obtained from the Universities Admissions Centre (telephone (02) 9752 0200) or from the university directly.

Fees

The fee for a statement of equivalence is $167.00 (includes GST).

The statement will be posted within 10 working days.

Payment can be made by cash, bank cheque, money order or credit card authority (Visa or MasterCard only). Payments by credit card will incur a 0.4% surcharge (GST inclusive). Personal cheques cannot be accepted.

Applications must be submitted by mail or in person at NESA's office (Level 4, 117 Clarence Street, Sydney), as original certified documents must be provided. Applications by email CANNOT be accepted.

Documents required

  • Completed Secondary Equivalence Application Form (PDF, 2 pages, 167KB).
  • Certified proof of identity (must match the name on your education documents, otherwise a certified change of name certificate or marriage certificate is also required).
Accepted forms of identification includes one of the following:
    • passport
    • driver licence
    • proof of age card or
    • birth certificate.
  • Certified copies of your interstate or overseas education documents, certificates and results for which you are seeking equivalence. If applicable, include certified copies of university degrees and transcript.
  • Certified copies of translations if the original documents are in a language other than English.
  • Bank cheque or money order (in AUD) or completed credit card details on the application form.

Certified copies have been compared with the original and endorsed as a true copy by a public officer or Justice of the Peace (JP). Copies must be certified in Australia and show:

  • full name

  • date and signature of the public officer or JP.

When applications are lodged in person, we will make the necessary copies of original documents for assessment. Do not send originals by post.
