Why has it moved?

We are migrating our website content to a new location on the NSW Government website so it's easier for you to find and read content.

All regulation information is now available in the new ‘School registration and compliance’ section at nsw.gov.au/NESA.

From 20 March, this page will no longer exist, and you will be automatically redirected to the NSW Government website.

In accordance with section 27A of the Education Act 1990 the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) is to monitor and provide advice to the Minister for Education and the Secretary of the Department of Education (the Department) on the compliance of the NSW government schooling system with requirements that are similar to the requirements for non-government school registration.

The registration process for monitoring the government schooling system is designed to utilise the Department’s existing assurance processes to minimise any additional compliance burden for the Department and government schools.

NESA places reliance on the Department reporting to NESA on its compliance assurance processes and the outcomes of those processes. The report is in the terms set out in the Framework for NSW Department of Education System Reporting.

NESA’s monitoring and provision of advice to the Minister and the Secretary is supplemented by relevant information gathered directly by NESA, including findings from NESA’s program of inspecting schools selected randomly.

NESA and the Department continue to consult on the registration process and the source and nature of documentation necessary to demonstrate policy implementation and compliance with the requirements. The requirements are described in Part B of the NSW Registration Process for the Government Schooling System Manual (PDF).
