Demonstrates the ability to translate the Latin of the prescribed texts into fluent and idiomatic English which reflects the meaning and tone of the original. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content of the prescribed texts, their cultural, historical and religious references, and the focus areas set for study. Demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of the literary qualities and stylistic features of the literature being read with support drawn from the text. Recognises grammatical forms and demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of their function. Presents a translation into English of unprepared passages of original Latin prose and verse which is clear and generally idiomatic, reflecting the meaning of the original.

Demonstrates the ability to translate the Latin of the prescribed texts into reasonably fluent and idiomatic English. Demonstrates a sound knowledge and understanding of the content of the prescribed texts, their cultural, historical and religious references, and the focus areas set for study. Demonstrates an understanding of the literary qualities and stylistic features of the literature being read with support being drawn from the text. Recognises grammatical forms and demonstrates a thorough understanding of their function. Presents a translation into English of unprepared passages of original Latin prose and verse which is generally clear and idiomatic, conveying the overall sense of the original.

Demonstrates the ability to translate most of the Latin of the prescribed texts with reasonable accuracy reflecting a general understanding of the content and intention of the original. Demonstrates a reasonable knowledge of the content of the prescribed texts, their cultural, historical and religious references, and the focus areas set for study. Demonstrates a sound knowledge of literary forms and an awareness of the stylistic features of the literature being read. Recognises some grammatical forms and demonstrates a sound understanding of their function. Presents a translation into English of unprepared passages of original Latin prose and verse which reveals an understanding of the main ideas of the original.
Band 3  (1.11%)
Demonstrates the ability to translate parts of the Latin of the prescribed texts with a limited understanding of content. Shows a basic knowledge of the content of the prescribed texts, their cultural, historical and religious references, and the focus areas set for study. Recognises and comments at an elementary level on some literary and stylistic features of the literature being read. Recognises some grammatical forms and their function. Presents a translation into English of unprepared passages of original Latin prose and verse which shows an understanding of parts of the passage being read but not the passage as a whole.
Band 2
Demonstrates very limited ability to translate parts of the Latin of the prescribed text. Shows some understanding of the content of the prescribed texts, their cultural, historical and religious references, and the focus areas set for study. Demonstrates an awareness of stylistic features. Recognises some grammatical forms. Recognises some words in an unprepared passage of original Latin prose and verse.
