2015 Notes from the Marking Centre – Entertainment Industry
Introduction
This document has been produced for the teachers and candidates of the Stage 6 Entertainment Industry course. It contains comments on candidate responses to the 2015 Higher School Certificate examination, indicating the quality of the responses and highlighting their relative strengths and weaknesses.

Section II
Candidates showed strength in these areas:
- understanding of the information that comes from key industry bodies or authorities (Q16a)
- outlining the communication process and applying it to the scenario (Q16b)
- providing reliable sources of information concerning industry job roles (Q17a)
- demonstrating an understanding of scale and its use (Q18a)
- identifying different information found in a lighting plan (Q21).
Candidates need to improve in these areas:
- knowledge of industry-specific professional learning, training and development (Q17b)
- identifying strategies that are culturally sensitive (Q17c)
- understanding of stage geography (Q18b)
- identifying applications for microphones based on their directionality (Q20)
- applying correct context to questions or scenarios
- focusing responses to the key concepts of the question.
Section III
Candidates showed strength in these areas:
- demonstrating an understanding of communication strategies relating to the scenario
- applying phases of production to the communication processes.
Candidates need to improve in these areas:
- linking the context of the scenario to the question
- understanding and applying teamwork strategies
- focusing responses on only the key concepts of the question.
Section IV
Candidates showed strength in these areas:
- identifying strategies to assist those with mobility issues (Q22a)
- interpreting audio, lighting and vision systems information from the context (Q22b).
Candidates need to improve in these areas:
- broader understanding of special needs, equitable access and the challenges that this presents in the context provided (Q22a)
- applying audio, lighting and vision systems to the specific context of the question (Q22b)
- considering the specific challenges that the context presented in the application of these production elements (Q22b).
